When it comes to PTFE shaft seals, there are two standard ranges available in short lead times- one of which is type HN2390.
But what is this type of seal, which industries and applications does it cover, and what are its advantages? Read on to find out...
What is a type HN 2390 PTFE shaft seal?
PTFE shaft seals are able to operate in environments that are too severe for elastomer solutions to be considered.
Applications in which there is high pressure, dry running, high peripheral speeds or low friction are perfect cases for a PTFE solution.
Our HN 2390 range specifically covers applications up to 20m/s and pressures up to 10 bar.
In general, the seals are metal caged to make them easier to install and although lip geometries can be varied to match the operational conditions, type HN 2390 is designed to feature a reinforced single lip, that is effectively supported to resist deformation under pressure.
There are other special versions available; our HN2580 extends the speed range to 30m/s with a pressure limit of 0.5bar. Higher pressures and speeds are also possible with custom designs.
What industries and applications are suited?
Type HN 2390 covers a broad range of applications, including the Food and Pharmaceutical industries.
The standard design is high wear and pressure resistant, making it suitable for applications where traditional elastomer solutions would be unable to deliver the required level of performance such as:
- Rotary compressors
- Dosing systems
It has good sealing performance with pressurised media and is suitable for both lubricated and oil-free service.
What are its advantages?
As aforementioned, PTFE shaft seals are the perfect choice when it comes to sealing applications with demanding operational parameters.
But there are other aspects of the seal that offer numerous benefits including:
- Outstanding chemical resistance
- Broad temperature range -60⁰C to +200⁰C
- Suitable for low lube and dry running conditions
- Special designs for low power losses
- Low stick slip
One of the main advantages is that type HN 2390 has received FDA approval. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, regulates the contents of foods, drugs, cosmetics and other potential consumables to ensure they are fit and safe for human use.
Although the jurisdiction of the FDA is restricted to the United States, FDA regulations are commonly adopted as the recognised control standards globally; so when it comes to choosing a component, organisations can rely on products that are marked as FDA compliant.
